To Rule the World

The play-on-words and title here are a bit of an homage to one of my favorite sci-fi short stories, "To Serve Man", written by Damon Knight and made into an episode of The Twilight Zone many years ago - as tongue-in-cheek as my little story ... if you're familiar with it, you'll see what I mean. ;-)
To rule the world would take a
Very long time, I would think ...
I mean, to measure the entire
Planet in segments of 12 inches,
One foot-at-a-time, would take
Months, if not longer! And how
Do you measure the ocean with
A ruler?!? That's just craziness,
And far too much to ask of anyone,
In my opinion. You'd have to have
A very accurate GPS system to
Help you, cuz you can't just make
A mark on the ocean and then
Move the ruler along another foot,
Can you? And what if there's a
Building in the way, or a mountain,
Or a million other things that
Could be interfering? Do you find
A way to move them and then
Put them back? How do you
Move a mountain and then
Replace it? But you'd really
HAVE to in order to do it right,
Cuz you need a flat surface to
Measure anything accurately ...
You can't lay a ruler on a curved
Surface and get a true measurement.
You know, though, you COULD
Use a yard stick, and that would
Speed things up quite a bit. I mean,
That would go three times as fast
As using a ruler, but then that's
Not technically "ruling" the world,
That's more like "yard-sticking"
The world, but I think it still might
Qualify, when you get down to
Semantics ... Just plain too much
Work and too many unknowns ...
But I think Donald Trump could do
It, AND get Mexico to pay for it!
(Wink, wink, wink) ;-)
