Three Point Play

Tangled and twisted the players fight tooth and nail The fourth quarter minutes were quickly counting down With beads of sweat pouring down senses set on each minuet detail A dream so alive could they win the championship crown It had all come down to 12 seconds that remained on the clock Vibrantly alert each player envisioned the ultimate prize and achievement The coliseum roared with excitement as the coach gave them a last second pep talk A feeling of euphoria engulfed the players as fear fell absent As the ball entered into play Down the court with scrambling confusion, two points separate With eight seconds remaining on the clock, the ball flies and is stolen away A quick pass to the star player with hopes he will accommodate Fingers teeming with energy and his mind focusing intense He jostles and pivots for position The crowd screaming hanging in suspense He releases the ball in a proud confident exhibition Silence engulfed the crowd as the ball flew free Arching high in brilliant solitude all doubt went away Everyone on their feet, stretching to see A precise brilliant shot, a three point play......

Your terrific poem made me think of a Boston Celtics game I once saw where Larry Byrd made the Hail Mary shot to win the game. What a thrill to watch. What a thrill to read the poem as well. I felt like I was in the stands cheering! Great work, Rick. Love, Carolyn
