Thoughts Of A Tough Old Bird

Seems my happier days have long been spent,
so what each day brings will be more than fair.
Thoughts each night are of tomorrows ascent,
but God won’t put on me more than I can bear.
Days are filled with shouldn’t, can’t, and don’t,
my desire level lingers, but ability is gone.
But I refuse to just go quietly, I’m sorry, I won’t,
until God calls my name and last breath is drawn.
