This poem is just about letting the mind wander from patterns of light cast on the wall to trying decypher the universe or people's intentions from clues that turn out to be just debris. It might have come from yesterday's poems or be the spark for tomorrow's or just nothingness to be left as graffiti on a park bench - unsightly and confusing.
---
The twisting and turning snatches of light are back on the wall I can't decypher them - they don't have messages within There's more to be known from snatches of caught words than prepared words The truth of course lies no where Just as it's impossible to understand the ocean fully from looking at the waves or the undercurrents Funnily - both the waves and the undercurrent are dangerous to weak swimmers And that's what I consider myself The motive of the ocean is a mystery to me I'm safely standing on the shore trying to understand why the ocean holds the jellyfish aloft ~ offering ultimate praise... The jellyfish is dead on the beach soon after I can't decypher it of course, it's cryptic - perhaps not even for interpreting It's wise to mistrust the ocean It keeps me safe So I don't look to it for messages to raise me up because the jellyfish are welcome to it Plus the beach seems citrinely soaked from all the elixir of enticing excitement brought about by the jellyfish exercise and it ceased to be entertaining entirely for myself as a weak swimmer with a strong bladder So, as the egg custard shaded sand is mocked by the sprinkling of nutmeg ~ I myself am mocked my echoes whispered on the wind. The sand is jelly fish free today but there are messages in the flaked pastry that fell from the bakery's paper bag. Only a fool would sit trying to read the teacup of life where the messages are left in stray pie crusts ground down to be themselves just granules indistinguishable from the sand itself. Yes, only a fool... the citrine substances dried, became dust that joined the sand - the whole thing is perhaps rather gross if you put it under a microscope ~ but I won't do that... no. It would be weird. I'll just mind my own business.

"It is wise to mistrust the ocean"..."myself as a weak swimmer with a strong bladder" Not sure why but those two lines became the funnel through which this poem flowed. Very "interesting" write DD. It should "provoke" some thought in the hearts and souls of its readers.

I'm surprised you're talking to me today John after I fangirled everything you wrote yesterday. I was expecting a restraining order. I actually looked at your back catalogue today (I'm unwell - haha I'll leave that as the explanation!) but didn't comment in case I pushed my luck. It's fun to let some chaos flow free from time to time - thanks for your support :)

you see the little poetic details in the everyday mundane, you keep it real, and that's the mark of a good writer :)

Thank you Charlotte - I just need the discipline to fine tune or indeed the interest to stick with one idea and work on it - I was exorcising a bit of angst in this one and feel better for it I think - thank you for your words of support, I place them in my pocket x

Scrutinizing anything or everything is wearisome and ultimately unproductive. I try not to read between lines or take myself too seriously. Life is too short to stress. Your metaphors here are outstanding. Hard for my simple mind to fully decipher but I think I get the gist. Well done

Thanks Tommy - it's where abstract meets facetious. I've never really attempted to show rather than tell or indeed got overly involved with metaphor, so I had a tongue in cheek play around with it. I love call and response poetry we've done on here before - calling to mind a matching sensation - I suppose employing metaphor is just that

This is quiet profound, poetic and very creative. An excellent use of metaphors with poetic techniques like alliteration. How you describe your thoughts on the subject blew my mind, with the analogy of being a weak swimmer and the jelly fish.. I do like the last stanza how you concluded your point.. Much is lost in translation, right? When people are not up front with what they want to say or just imply things, it can lead to a paranoid mind, whilst it can also be difficult to decipher silence.

yeah.. so we try to find a way to distract ourselves and shut off from the situation and sometimes the world... which can be a challenge in itself.

Thank you. You're not wrong - understanding people in general, individually or as a collective can wear out the overthinker.

Always important to remember there are three sides to every story, I guess... such is the human experience. Loved your poem.
