This is so common; we assume things too often.

I have learned that my assumptions are almost always incorrect.

As I read this poem, I was forced back to the title, like after reading each stanza, going back to the title for an anchor point. This is really powerful, insightful, and practical. I constantly have to be reminded that it's not really about me at all when people are in a bad mood, or if they are rude, or even if they just look through me...that's about something going on in their world. We need poetry like yours to remind us to "hit the refresh button," and put things in perspective. Thank you!

I have learned it is never about me, it is because they are hurting, sometimes deeply. In counseling we are taught to ask "why are you so sad?" not "why are you mad?" It makes all the difference in their reaction.
