Then I Bought a Button and Thought About It a Lot
What a wonderful escape
The gallery was inspiring
With a mixed medium creation
Of a street I've stood on
And a view and moment in time
I experienced
Myself
Beautiful
Within (withon?) the walls
Of the off high street gallery
Was an original Lowry pencil drawing
Paintings with names like Echoes
(I like the word)
Light and shade
Had been played with
And the in-between won
I'm drawn into paintings
Which I need to learn about
Where the shadow
Holds more
Than what's at the forefront
Plus one ever so lumpy
Of the sea at night
Where it's colour matched the moon
Also of note
Was a charity shop
With a button section
Beautiful artwork's themselves
With a story
Of being purchased before
And waiting, waiting
For their day
I've rescued a few
And I wonder
If they'll sit
For my lifetime too
To find themselves
In 60 years, on a shelf
Being admired once again
For their beauty
I bought of a book of poems
A ball of wool
A lifetime of buttons
A cheese pasty
That I put in my pocket for a while
A necklace to wear with a vintage dress
Then I watched the snow
And wondered if I'd place in a Strand
