The Yard Is Swaying
I am an earth girl.
I am one with my land,
and it is good.
I left for three days once.
Upon my return the willow
tree began swaying back and
forth
with wild unashamed
naked abandon.
She was the leader, but
other trees saw and they
began swaying their branch
arms back and forth too,
in wild naturalness, yet
oddly unnatural.
My husband saw the yard swaying
with happiness. He said, "The
yard is glad to see you!"
When we both looked again
she had stopped
swaying at all, and the
others did too, but we could
feel their happy hearts.
I had planted that willow
tree when she was
a baby, and watered her
like a maniac, so she could
survive a brutally hot summer.
I am an earth girl.
All together I've planted
19 trees, and 11 bushes
on my property in 11 years,
and they are all happy to see
me.
Every day.
Because I am an Earth
girl, and I love them and
they return that love back
in full force.
So glad I'm an Earth Girl.
