One day out of nowhere appeared
A worm, sort of plump and bright green.
It looked kind of scary and weird-
A creature the kids hadn't seen.
It lay on the steps to the school-
Looked up with its eyes big and round;
Soon followed by something so cool-
A smile and a low squeaky sound.
Then- suddenly, it really spoke!
"I want to attend your school too
To learn how to read- it's no joke!
I want to be smart just like you!
My name is just Worm, and you see
Like you, I must know how to read.
Together, we'll learn happily
How reading will help us succeed"!
The kids carried Worm to their class
And then set him up with big thrills-
New home with fresh dirt and green grass;
Together, they earned reading skills!
