The World of Us (Zejel)

Many words and many thoughts are there just on display Reading and appreciating, I find the only way Poetry is the reason we’re coming here each day The written word, expressing love, is glorious to read Bringing tears from eyes, making hearts all bleed The poets here, so very well, have so much to say So coming here forever more, is the saving way The zejel is a Spanish form. The first stanza, known as the mudanza, has three lines, rhyming aaa. All the other stanzas - as many of them as you like - have 4 lines, rhyming bbba, the a rhyme harking back to the first stanza. So the overall rhyming scheme for the poem is aaa/bbba/ccca/ddda/... Colloquial language tends to be used, and 8-syllable lines are usual (though not obligatory).
