The Window

Peering through an open window...'cross time and history, I saw a hint of glory past- a fresh simplicity. Over there... behold, a mother bent humbly on her knees Praying for her family's care and other earnest pleas Then, a scene did catch my gaze which stirred me from within A pauper...lame, did put his all into a blind man's tin My mind became quite troubled at what a future brings If humanity eliminates good and simple things Though this may seem a bit bland compared with modern trends, Simple, lowly acts, like these, for a brighter future lends Suddenly, the window faded into a distant fog For the traffic then began to move amidst the heavy smog When I pulled into my neighborhood, there wasn't any sun Two kids were waving switchblades until one pulled a gun Across the way, oblivious, some men were smoking weed... The gun went off..screams were heard and one began to bleed The other took off quickly as I rushed out from my car I tried to stop the bleeding but the bullet went too far Oh, how I wish for simpler times- when pleasantries abound, Yet, I know there is a window from whence it can be found !
