The War
She lawyered up when he walked in the room
And he watched her smile fade into the past.
Look at them now, the former Bride and Groom.
His mom was right to say it wouldn’t last.
She took the fifth on every question asked,
But accusations hit him from all sides.
Slowly but surely they both were unmasked-
Not-so-guilty Groom, not-innocent Bride.
The only one with no fault was the Child.
Not even present at this one last fight.
The witness to all was from this exiled
Unfortunately out of mind and sight.
Wearied and bloodied they walked out the door.
The battle was over. Both lost the war.
