The Wake of Sadness, In Youth's Brevity

The Wake Of Sadness, In Youth's Brevity Vagaries of wondrous youth I so miss Sunset, its purple hues, her tender kiss Bacon and fried eggs, waking to dawn's gold, Sweet things one remembers when getting old. Warm fires, those heavenly campfire nights Love's delights when making up after fights; Rose garden and gleaming glamorous reds Morn's happiness when rose from our night bed Voice beckoning me to give longer hugs "I Love You", you put on our coffee mugs. Such dear things, deepest treasures I now hold Romance tales, I feel must be retold. Alas! Youth flies away and does not last Yet greatest of treasures lie in our past. Robert J. Lindley, June 23rd, 1998 Sonnet, ( Memories, Treasures Held)

Sweet loving memory, Rob. How precious are those moments you can look back and reminisce. Yes the body ached but sweet momories are as refreshing as they were first made with your true love... Romanticly sweet!

Thank you my dear friend. I was blessed to have had as my first poetry teacher/adviser, a poetess that wrote that way and she advised me that a poet must expose his/her heart when writing. For to not do so, is putting in a lesser effort and one should never do that in poetry. If it is worth writing, it is worth doing your very best. She was a great poet herself, and truly cared about her students..

A beautiful sonnet, Robert. The older we get, the more we fall back on youthful recollections. Indeed you are right when you claim that "the greatest of treasures lie in our past". ~ Best regards // paul

Thank you my friend. I think you and I see no only poetry but also life and our past in a very similar way... Glad you like this sonnet and its trip down a memory lane I so oft take..

Sweet things come flying back into our brain so fast when we gather experience. Such deepest treasures we now hold. Youth flies away. Beautifully written. Kudos!

Thank you my friend. Yes we hold those treasure memories and sometimes it is a life saver for us. Many times in these last few years, due to my failing health, my treasured memories have seen me through, to finding hope and going on. That coupled with a loving family made all the difference in the world, in my case. Thank you for commenting..

Thank you my friend. So important and also so necessary to give us insight into continuing to change for the better. Sad part is the too oft the inherent dangers of youth causes too many to die before ever getting old. Especially true of young males. Far better for them and others around them, if they see the Light sooner rather than later.

Hi Robert, another one of your masterful Sonnets. Loved it. Such romantic memories so full of nostalgia. Maria :) Ps I've posted a medieval romantic one which engenders chivalry entitled 'The True Knight' - I think you will like it

Thank you my friend. I read that exceptional poem my friend and true to course you created a gleaming gem. Very pleased that you found this sonnet so my friend. We are our past, at least for a time and our past molds what we will become. Youth requires experimentation, facing the world, learning, fighting, living , loving and hopefully--surviving! If one is blessed, they have treasured memories to look back on in their old age.

Indeed, Robert, as time goes by I am ever thankful for the gift of memory and the treasures of the past, when so many live short lives for one reason or another. Fine Sonnet, my friend. Regards, Viv

Thank you my friend. True, nobody appreciates the treasures of youth as do the old. Hindsight being a great teacher and gifting better understanding of our youth, wild ways, foolish mistakes and having lived through it all! All the better if one has lived a decent life and not engaged in foul deeds and too many of the tempting evils of this dark world.

Thank you my friend. Our past, all of our pasts are what make up the history of this world. Individually, in personal reference- Much golden treasure rests back there to be summoned at will. Great memories of happiness, beloved family and romance. Writing about youth, its treasures gone because time vanquished them, is away of trying to remind young readers to slow down and smell the coffee. Also that even if great sorrows occur, one may survive to find great happiness later in life.....

True words my friend...If it was sweet back then I can't imagine how much more now would be the sugar content...All the best Robert...

Yes my friend, life is truly sweet now, especially because my wife and children make it so. Nothing in this world beats beloved family and sharing life with them. Which is something far too many young people in their mad rush, hectic modern world fail to realize.
