The Valiant Soldier

Tearfully, he walks the path along the ridge Homeward bound, an answer to their prayers, But he’s thinking about his friend at the bridge The napalm bombs falling, the red-hot flares. They crawled hands and knees into harm’s way Not knowing new orders came with little cover, He watched his partner hit, then mortally splay It seemed like fear, but raw courage took over. They had called him a hero, given him a medal, But he had only done what his honor compelled Of the valiant soldier trained for the battle, And he his comrades would never have failed.

Soldiers automatically do the right thing; they have integrity. "They had called him a hero, given him a medal, But he had only done what his honor compelled" Great!

I believe that's true. Our most famous local Medal of Honor recipient, Hershel "Woody" Williams, died a few days ago. He was 98 years old, a veteran of Iwo Jima. He was the last surviving World War II Medal of Honor recipient. Good man!

Great men and women do the right thing. Never thinking of themselves in the process but thinking of others. It is a Godly trait to have Milton. Your words have reflected this perfectly. Enjoyed reading and I am reminded of the wonderful human beings that are still in this world. God bless them all...
