The Vain Brain's Pain
Pain … constant as time
and sharp as the biting wind
on the coldest peaks
From whence it came
Ego
Pressure
Expectations
Loss
For why it haunts
will we know?
When we confront the pain and start
the process of healing, does it matter
where or why?
Vain … hidden as a fault line
Destructive when unleashed
preying on the weak
For why it comes
Stature
Ego
Pedigree
Place
When it shows
everyone will know.
Yet can vanity creep up on you and
take you by surprise? Can you suddenly
see your ego and cry?
Brain … greatest waste of all
Greatest source of information
and depot of destruction
We try to stunt it
Cigarettes
Booze
Propaganda
Drugs
And then we ask
why won’t it work?
We’re told only 10% of our brain
functions as it is and yet we ingest poisons
as if it’s invincible.
And we pollute and waste the water
as if it will never run out …
And cut down trees faster than they grow …
And build vehicles quicker than the
planet can adjust …
And flick cigarette butts out the car window …
And toss out beer bottles …
Throw in an oil slick or two to the oceans …
And not enough of us recycle …
And we waste electricity …
And don’t even get me started about the
wonderful decisions Man makes about starting
Wars …
Do you understand us? Or
are you as confused as I?
