Notes About The Poem

The Theft of Ones Self

The paintings where discovered in an old barn
The crime of the century
All six paintings masterpieces
All the locals where questioned at length and width
No one had but a single clue
Except for the local art dealer
He whispered to the inspector
I saw a very colorful van
Drive off in the night
It was not someone from around here inspector
The inspector asked Theo, did you hear anything?
The art dealer replied I am hard of hearing you see
Upon which he proffered a flask from his breast pocket
I think Vincent lives near there, off you go and ask him
When the inspector sought out this new witness
He was no where to be found
They suspected it was his van
In conclusion
Vincent Van Gogh
And was never found

Notes: In America we pronounce his name Van Go, not Van Goff

You could easily write sketches for SNL..This is that funny and so creatively penned! I love reading about art heists It seems impossible with the technology today, yet still happens. The art world is a very mysterious one and this was a great fun read..Great write. thank you for the smiles :-) blessings, lynn

When I visited his museum in Amsterdam they had a complimentary movie documentary of his life going all day long. He had a very interesting life and fought his emotional/mental problems...but lost the battle. He left us so much to appreciate. It is sad he died thinking he was a failure. I enjoyed your light poem Arthur. You always manage to entertain splendidly! 7 ; )

This is so funny : ) poor Vincent... I would love to have a few of his pieces if I could afford it with a vault to keep them safe so no one would steal them....

Why Eve, who would steal a Van Gogh? If they broke into your house they would steal an "Van Eve"

When someone steals valuables created by an artist, it makes me angry. The story ignited my ire because Van Gogh is one of my two favorite painters. (Named two cats after him.) Unfortunately, he confessed to shooting himself while on his deathbed. Artists have such deep emotions. This poem is a treasure and a favorite. Hugs, Carolyn
