The Solitude

Lights are dimmed and darkness awaits, While the shadows brush away the bright day, And the air is chilled, no noises or sounds, As you walk the abandoned hallway. Turn left it’s dark, turn right it’s silent, The floors are spotless, tidy, they’re neat, You’re alone and forlorn, walking this maze, Your shoes tapping the tap on concrete. Then your car, she faithfully appears, Ready to buckle you in safe and sound, As you quietly merge onto the road, Alone in your head homeward bound. Finally, your key turns and the door swings open wide, And silence walks your hand to your throne, With a drink, a smoke, and a dream of tomorrow, This is your life when you’re living alone.

This would be a painful existence and sadly some live like this. Kind regards Lewis and thank you for recognising those in pain.

Well said! Change thrown to throne. Love the line "With a drink, a smoke, and a dream of tomorrow" a great way to wrap up the poem.
