The Sleeper
It's the middle of the night
My heart beats loudly
Feels ill contained
Looking for an exit
As each thump hits
Like a runaway train
It's not accompanied
By racing thoughts
Any thought at all
Feels like it needs
Carefully selecting
From a closed book
Found via the index
I'll just wait for quietness
It's approaching
The trick is avoiding
A line switch
From heart to mind
Where sleep is whisked away
And a new discomfort settles
