The Sins of Men

A poet friend (a woman) tells me "men own all earth's sin And women must forgive them" (does she claim a helper's role?) This former 'Christian' ("God's a myth") has Grace to offer Grace, Which tells me Christ lives in her heart. Such words aren't out of place! My God! Christ chose the cross! His death revealed Grace as God's goal, This sinner, friend (I'm sure God loves), denies, still takes this in! The truest Christians on this earth, the saints (are saints all jokes?) Aren't blameless 'cause they go to church each Sunday, live in fear Of what they'll find behind death's door, or praise God with their voice! Please listen, friend, I speak the truth, for 'Faith' like 'Love' is choice, True Faith is Love that's in your heart, it finds expression, dear, Each second of your life (although you sin with other folks!) Humility, perhaps, should be the purpose of all life, And Paul, a sinner once reviled, the man who said it best? "If I should boast, please God, may it be only of the cross Where Jesus died that men know Grace, for Love is never boss Of earthly things!" Does looming death still seem a fearful test? May God be Love! As I join Christ, I see an end to strife! Brian Johnston 1st of April 2019 Poet's Notes: Thanks to my PoemHunter friend, Lora Colon, for inspiring this new poem! May all men (at least) be April's Fools with me by giving Grace to their brothers (and sisters) sharing my desire to follow Christ's example! I pray that it will always be my faith that His death did it all (for all of us!)
