The straight and narrow has no regrets Though harrowing to never step out of line To be bound in place or forced onwards without awareness of either side of the path Channeled in one direction, everything sweeping you forwards Towards the camera, capturing your distress See me in torment Near the end but having missed the beginning Should I break free the tide would wash me back to this point but beneath the walkway My nerve to escape punished by obscuration of the sun The air from my lungs swept out as I exhale Inhalation becomes sucking the life out of the air Degrading me from the inside out I'm not sure being here is a matter of choice

A picture of the contemporary mindscape....frightening, overpowering. This painting has always haunted me perhaps because it is so emotionally confronting. Your words surround the image with a sense of helplessness, of being trapped.....adds to the effect. Well written DD

Thanks Paul, I've written about this painting several times, typically sticking to the perspective of Munch within the timeframe it was painted. However I detoured on this occasion to use it to express a current picture (mentioning a camera) - ekphrasis can be quite therapeutic

Thanks Stan, I've described The Scream a few times. It's an interesting one to hook into now I like poetry, although I never liked it at all before. Thanks for your comment, appreciated
