The Prophetic

In these times
the prophetic leaks out
of lesions in language -
sacred scripts fester
promises of slaughter
by revengeful gods
born out of the fury
of our own inner dark.
The same has hovered
over bloody battlefields
for millennia, the dead
wrapped in the flags
of countless faiths.
Meanwhile,
the Universe looks on
finding nothing of itself
in such weaponized deity.
It has a list of more
important things to do.

' Prophetic words should not be accepted blindly but rather tested and discerned carefully, aligning them with scriptural truth. ' Something to be mindful of, indeed. Congratulations Paul, on Poem of the Day. Many wonderful blessings to you. Hugs, Brandy

Hi Brandy, Hi Brandy, Thankyou for your comments...thoughtful reflections. Valued. Truth suffers when politics enters the arena. As indicated in what you said, truth should be foremost not the victim as it so often is in these troubled times. Take care, Paul

Stark words of truth here Paul, if only others found it so easy to see reality so clearly. I fear people like me with a need to close their eyes to it and others who need to have something to fight for all play their parts in it until the obvious end plays out when people who shouldn't have power have too much. Good to read you today and congratulations on POTD x

Profound comments Laurentine...thankyou for such a thoughtful response. Raises many questions....the magnitude of the challenges appear overwhelming. I guess we need to preserve our own little authentic voices....the only thing we got. Thankyou, Paul

Seems we didn’t start the fire Paul, it was always burning since the world was turning (Billy Joel), A sad indictment of humankind, the universe has indeed other (work) to do, even if it’s just following its own laws of physics! Congratulations on a brilliant and wise POTD! Cheers David

It seems that our species has the tendency to try to explain everything in terms of divine intervention...prophetic blueprints abound....rather than take responsibility for our own destiny. Polute the world, someone else will step in and save us. The world is becoming dummer. Many thanks David for yr thoughtful words. Greeting from Downunder.

Hello Paul, A piercing critique of how we project our 'inner dark' onto the heavens. The indifference of the Universe in the final lines provides such a stark, effective contrast to the 'fury' of the opening. Blessings, Daniel

Lovely to see you Paul, such wise words - when all is perhaps for nothing anyway, why make what little something there might be so heinous. I'm afraid I do shut my eyes insofar as I can.

It's great to see posts from you, Paul. The universe must think so little of what takes place these days...humans are such deplorable and greedy creatures.

The world seems to have been turned upside down, chaos and self interest rule I'm afraid. So sad...still believe good souls outnumber the greedy. Unfortunately power is now concentrated in the hands of the few and the lie has become common currency. So good to receive yr comments dear Lin.
