“For there to be betrayal, there would have to have been trust first.” Suzanne Collins
Author's Note: This story is real and horrific; all could've been prevented had the bus driver followed procedure and searched the bus (the contest prompt)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In Ayotzinape, Mexico, 43 students disappeared that hot September day.
Having commandeered a school bus, to the nation’s capital they made their way.
Cartel’s drugs hidden aboard, unbeknownst to the driver much to his dismay.
For days police searched for missing students while parents did in earnest, pray.
In clandestine graves, 27 tortured and buried; 16 kept in caves after their slay.
Failure to search the bus, driver committed suicide, for community he did betray.
