The Prancing Family
We called them the Prancing Family.
They pranced around their old Grandmother
Worrying about making her mad
How she could have been any madder, we never knew.
When grandma died, they started prancing around
their father, her son.
“He pouts,” one told me.
I had never seen this, but I was not his child.
Two of them lived at home their entire life,
prancing around dad, trying to please him.
Out-guessing what he might want for dinner.
“Why not just ask him?” I suggested.
That might have meant less pussy-footing
And certainly less prancing, so they were not up for that.
Many neighbors never got to know the Prancing Family
Too busy leading their own lives to worry about all that prancing.
I was one of those, I am glad to report.
I did not even know their names, not sure anyone else did either.
I know one thing, they were the best role models for a life I
Never wanted to lead, so I thank them for that.
