Pensive and faltering,  The words, the dead, I write. by Walt Whitman

************************************************************************************

The Pensive Poet

I sit engulfed in silence.
I lie alone in the immutable dark.
Despondent or merely lazy? Just what am I?
Poetic ideas are empty, my pen is still,
I try to write about my emotions.
Nothing emerges. There’s only emptiness.

For all around is hushed and all is dead.
How oft have I yearned for poetry?
How oft had I dreamt I am wallowing
In perfect tranquillity?

Sleep brings with it a ghastly dream,
Going through a portal grey
Into a swirling, ugly, evil fog
Of another time, another world.
Hush, sirens sing a ghastly lyric.
My mind is roped against a mast.

I pass into a shadowy glade
And walk upon a pebbled path,
No footstep resounds back to me
No living thing is seen around.
Lightening snakes amongst the clouds
I expect thunder but hear none,
I see the water fall o'er the brink
No roar registers in my mind.
I wake, I sweat from brow to toe,
I try to rhyme; I try free verse.

I shiver in the heat of muted night.
I wander around my chambers,
Noiseless rooms, devoid of life.
I roam amongst my memories,
Pain grips fast my mourning soul,
Then, unashamed, I weep
And yearn......
Just for an epic poetry.

Though the poet laments that poetry has deserted him, finally he has come up with a wonderful poem. The nightmare part of the poem stands out with images like 'lightning snaking through the clouds'. Well done dear Victor.👍

Dear Victor, what a poet you are! I absolutely felt the genuine melancholy and heartache through your words, flowing in the veins that branched within your lines ... Even the space between them leaves such depth for one to ponder! And the anxiety reflection, sigh, I resonate with that so much! There's so much poignancy that ripples in our pulses that speak nothing but pain.tbe imagery and the emotions, everything here is just soul-stirring! "Hush, sirens sing a ghastly

This is a suburb poem. The imagery just outstanding delivering images, emotions and scattered reactions flashing so fast I wish to gather them for insight. I believe this is among your best and that you just shared from your depths, letting readers in so you can let it out. I know you need not fear such as you do. YOU ARE HIGHLY LOVED IN HIGH PLACES

This is a deeply moving poem about creative emptiness, loneliness, and the longing to reconnect with inspiration. The haunting dream imagery beautifully reflects an inner struggle, where silence becomes both a refuge and a burden. The ending is especially poignant, capturing the poet’s desire to find their voice again and transform pain into creation.

This is an excellent poem that goes into the turbulence of mental conflict and inner voices, examining topics such as insanity, loneliness, and the battle for control over one's own mind, Victor. The poem is rich in imagery and emotion, with a strong structure. Good luck with the contest.
