The Note
She left him a note
It clearly stated
And I quote
"For you, I've waited"
Dinner prepared
Candles left glowing
The depth, she cared
With him not knowing
His clothes displayed
For the morning to follow
The bills were paid
But the air was hollow
He loosened his belt
Out of habit
Subconsciously felt
That she would grab it
But there it lay
Out of place
Till he put it away
A task he would face
Supported by his hands
He hovered the sink
Feeling numb and bland
Too confused to think
Finally he grabbed
the note once more
He read it aloud
as he sat on the floor
"I stood by your side
Through better and worse
I surrendered my pride
Studied every verse
A Godly wife was my goal
I ignored the whispers
And bliss you stole
The joke of the town
Topic of interest
You drug me down
But I was relentless
Tears would fall
Alone at night
Your brother did call
To my delight
He saw in me
What you failed to find
The honest beauty
That can't be defined
Big brown eyes
And only one dimple
A woman that tries
To appear simple
Doing the dishes
In an apron of lace
Doesn't dare to have wishes
What a disgrace
But somewhere inside
There lives ambition
She selflessly lied
Pleasing you, her mission
Unearthly literate
He Read my book right away
Resulting in his benefit
And your decay"
