Meld of Muses

My mind is a house with a thousand rooms That burst at the seams with recollections In vain I have tried with a thousand brooms To sweep the excess of stacked projections. So often I sift through each fading page Intending to shred what lacks importance But failures greet me, all my plans upstage Submit to the waves, without resistance. Condemned to a life stranded in the past Of strength I am drained, dearth of endeavour Decisive my choice, now the die is cast Fast chained to regret that lasts forever. How long could I cope in terms conceptual? A second in time could be perpetual. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The Meld of Muses Poetry Contest Sponsored by Craig Cornish 13th February, 2020

Thank you, Angela. Sometimes we have little or no control over our mind...it has a will of its own :) Regards // paul

Some find tremendous joy living in each moment, others in the endless possibilities they dreamed up in their heads (somewhere between both extremes, though difficult to attain, would be ideal). A fascinating, and tremendously relatable sonnet you have here. The ending couplet is amazing. Writing has that power to conceal a moment indefinitely and relive it for future enjoyment.

Dear Paul, my wonderfully talented friend, I love the emotional imagery of the first two lines of your impressive and sadly expressive poem that instantly tantalized my heart and imagination. A beautiful meld of muses and of the many layers so artfully conveyed, such sadness is mesmerizing. Congratulations on your lovely win. Warmest wishes and hugs always.. ~Susan

Paul, I would say a thousand and one rooms, and each day, one less broom for the sweeping. There's a marvelous condemnation in your poem. Congratulations on your imploring poem 'Meld of Muses'. -Richard

Paul this is a great poem, but is it a verse, or a sonnet? Seems like well metered sonnet to me...

Thank you S-1. Yes it could be a sonnet, but there are a couple of accents which I was not quite happy with, so took the safeway out! Regards // paul

To get into the mind of the wise.. to read the feel of the poet.. to see into the wealth of a lifespan.. to decrypt the words of new dimensions.. that's the aspiration of a reader bewildered by a work of Art and mind of a great poet of many a Muse! A Beauty I kept beholding and exploring its layers! You amaze with your masterful pen, Paul! I so much enjoyed the read! Best regards and blessings to you.

Quite a dark and deep verse Paul, love that opening line, so much we accumulate as we go through life. Well written Tom.

Glad it is poetry, win or lose, always a winner! Yet, Paul, why the need to sweep? The TAO allows us to watch them come and go, like people, without judgment. Join the flow -- of age, thoughts, life, water ... just do NOT label them regrets. Shalom, shalom on Valentines!

Not sure what to say Paul. Wow! It is very sad. I also see it as philosophical and deep. Are you by chance a math or science teacher?
