The Letter
It was from a suitor,
He was new in town,
Shirley took it from the mailbox,
She read it to Susan,
They were filled with odes and serenades,
He compared her beauty to the sun
arising from its chamber,
He compared her elegance
to the starry night sky,
He haloed her with colours,
Susan was taken aback,
She didn’t know he admired her,
They met several times at the bookstore,
There she did go to indulge herself,
She thought she was only a simple girl,
Lost in the world of nature and the arts,
Shirley smiled as she read the last sentence,
Susan was lost in the ambience,
A door has opened to her,
She could see through the gloom that shadowed her.
