Notes About The Poem

The Isle of Man, My Forever Home

I feel so proud when I see our national flag raised and sing our Anthem ‘Oh land of our birth’ This island is not the place where I was born but there’s no place on earth I’d rather be with mountains and hills, a patchwork of fields and the ocean which caresses our shores I love eating Manx kippers, see cats with no tails view the famous TT races, and ride horse trams on rails We do not bow down to ’the Adjacent Isle’ that’s how England is known to the Manx Our Tynwald parliament's made laws for over 600 years Elizabeth’s our Sovereign and long may she reign I’m not Manx but the Island’s my forever home and my final resting place overlooks the blue sea Whitman-Inspired Uplifting Poetry, old or new Poetry Contest Sponsored by Carolyn Devonshire 1/6/20

Jan, I can tell that you love your Isle of Man. The things you described are best enjoyed in person, but you made them "come alive" in your vivid description of the things that you love and in so doing, helped the readers to enjoy it as well. Congratulations on your win!

What a fine tribute to your island home. I hope I have the privilege to visit someday. I'm going to google your flag. That's always been a mystery to me.

Some people think it looks like a Swastika and in fact some people have been made to remove the flag at sporting events, even politicians in the Uk have got confused over it too!:-( hugs Jan xx

A straightforward nonexaggerated or gushy write on one's love of place. Simple and to the point. I've written one similar to yours about New England. Thanks, Jan, for stopping by. Best to you. / M

I had a month where I lost my muse John and only recently came back. I never force writing, just write when the inspiration is there. I don't think 4 funerals in as many weeks helped motivate me to pick up my pen:-( hugs Jan xx
