The Hawk

The traffic is ridiculous. It feels like cars and trucks are angry – flashing headlights, loud horns, slamming brake sounds. Red and raw brake lights. Starting and stopping. Yelling and screaming as only lights and horns can. I watch the traffic slide in and out of itself, Like a snake, but in a choppy, non-graceful way. No one is giving up their space. I slow down and let an impatient truck jump in front of me. Two cars slide in also. Amazing as it looked like barely a space for one. My brakes slam without any conscious thought from me. I am watching the dance, glad that my feet are smarter than I am. I start feeling irritated. There is tension in my neck now. I am getting a headache at the top of my neck, in the back. Something upward catches my eye. A hawk, gracefully floating, soaring, enjoying her life, gliding. God’s creation. Reminding me that I am not alone. God is watching the traffic also. This changes my entire mood.

Birds fly close to God...as they say; hawks are beautiful, indeed. Well done.

I love a good hawk, watching them not swoop down and eat the bunnies and squirrels who are rampant in my yard. They uplift me.

I used to bird watch while working as a bike courier, drive with a my ears, one eye on the road, the other on the sky... multi tasking ;) made eye contact once with a hawk traveling in the opposite lane.

I adore birds. Hitchcock's show terrified me against crows for awhile, but I have made peace with them. I pretty much like all animals. I know you have never forgotten this hawk, Maureen.

Reading this, I wonder how many other people there were so upset by the traffic that they missed even seeing the hawk? Great poem, and a reminder to look for and appreciate the special little "details" of each day!

I count on the little things, as the big ones irritate me so.

Thank you Line. I do have to admit this is true; it happened to me yesterday morning. A wake up call.

God gave you a bird's eye view. God's good.

Thank God for it, as I was really getting a bit of road rage.
