The Gray of Today

Fear is fleeting But in spurts, in different circumstance— it ever remains Hearts stop, hearts skip And returning, adapting The mind does wait in anxious knowing That the fear may at anytime return As the hair quickly burns And is soon nothing A breath finds its way back into our lungs Remembering the despair is the true fear Forgetting the smiles of yesterday To take on the gray of today

I'm too often in the gray area so had to read this one, the gray of the last line is almost black, but I guess that's why they say shades of gray. Keeps people like me away from absolutes lol.. Great work Laura.

Laura sometimes the mind plays tricks on the mind and we create our own fear, this is a good write and holds the reader all the way through, well done...David

There probably is a lot to be fearful of if one is a realist. I try not to think about it, but as you say, it always comes back in some manner. There is a lot of PTSD in this crazy world of ours. It is no wonder with all the strange happenings.

Old brother/sister anxiety. How I know it well. It sneaks up like an ankle bitter and take a little nip at your confidence. Well written and to the point. Your talent really shines on this one. ~Kilmer

I can read this on several levels. What I find most intriguing is that the pace of time speeds and slows to a momentary stop. Fear is difficult to live with. Have it myself at times. Anyway, you are a master of thought and emotion. It becomes worse after we have children. SInce we also fear for them. Life has many burdens, but many rewards as well. It's great to feel all of this. It makes me wise (or a wise-guy). You have a handle on life my friend.

A beautiful conundrum in your lilnes. If the fear can be reversed: Forgetting the despair, remembering the smiles...I believe today can become a seed for tomorrow. Fear, like anger, is just inspiration in hiding. Find it.
