The Girl Behind the Bar

The Girl Behind the Bar The first thing I noticed was her long, magic hair, And how it flowed with each graceful movement. Now and then, she would change directions sharply, And her hair would woosh behind, in perfect sync. But I knew that there was more to learn than that, And when the crowd filled in, and the din grew loud, She glided about constantly and in perfect harmony, Always, with the same elegant, and measured steps. Beyond her timely measured cadence, she knew you, Instinctively, and without a second thought about it, And not just you, everyone else - she knew humanity, A tapestry of life, all connected by a friendly bar stool. I think that’s really the whole of the answer right there, And maybe words can’t describe the things we are gifted, The things you can’t buy, or study within some Ivy walls. How would you teach the fine lines that bind us together? Generations come here, friends come here, life is constant, And there is an ebb and flow that hovers around all of us. There is a commonality laid bare, and there is time shared, There is good spirit here, and there is the girl behind the bar.
