The Gift of Tears

Varied the ways that a father's life gifts his son, Not till his stroke did I witness Dad's tears. Dream unimagined! What chance that his weakness Might welcome son's strength? Lord! This sharing took years! Gifting desire for emotional sustenance, Anger, fear too, as deep grief was exposed. I mark this day as our best time together, The one where I first heard life's music transposed! Who trusts the value of tears when we miss the mark! Banished though shame is if lesson gets learned? Riding his son though unfit for this saddle, All Cowboys, in dust, find first spurs that they’ve earned! Brian Johnston 18th of April, 2019
