The Game of Love

It's true, the love affair was pretty short - in fact it only lasted half a year; I've heard it said she plays at love for sport, but even now her name provokes a tear; she claimed, 'My love, I'm not the hurting sort' and lied me loving words I longed to hear; I hoped at last I'd found a joy to last, but thoughts of her belong now in the past... for Janis' Ottava Rima contest

The game of love can unfortunately be one-sided Jack. A sadly beautiful poem of lost love, woeful memories and a broken heart. By the way, I love the wonderful rhythm and rhyme of your write and your poem is showcased wonderfully within this poetry form. A fantastic write.. warmest wishes my friend.. ~Susan

Some play a wicked game when hearts can break so easily. Some will use and abuse a relationship only for gain and that is so sad. Hope this was not you Jack. love phyl

Hearts are so fragile and break so easily. Those who do the breaking cannot escape having sorrow returned to them one day. I enjoyed your wonderful entry and I am so glad to see it on the winners list. Congratulations Jack! : )

Falling in love can be quite a gamble, Jack! This poem proves that even an old relationship that came to naught still manages to elicit sad memories. Regards // paul
