The Forgotten

Who are the forgotten?
Those hidden in the shadows of others.
The poor,
The broken,
The widows,
The orphans,
Those not wanted by others,
Those that are cast aside,
Those overlooked,
Some people see the forgotten but rather not.
Some see the forgotten and just say, “they are just too lazy”.
Some see the forgotten and feel like they are not worth the effort.
Who are the forgotten?
The child standing in the corners of left behind.
The mom that has been pushed down in the muck.
The dad, just trying to fight his way out.
The girl that was beaten and abused.
The boy that was ripped apart with mean words.
The soldier fighting a war that wasn’t theirs.
The addict that was looking for an escape.
Who are the forgotten?
They are hidden in plain sight,
Right there in front of your face,
Even within arm’s reach,
Hidden in your shadow.

An incredibly potent message to reflect upon, Deborah! The human mind often remains confined in its own small world, thereby overlooking many things that are right before our eyes. It’s a profoundly true and enlightening poem.

I suppose to a certain degree we all live in the shadows at some point in our lives.

I agree, some more than others. And then some live their whole lives in the shadows and pass away unknown. It is very sad to witness.

' Those hidden in the shadows of others. ' There's so much truth in this statement. Your thoughts caress softly around me and my heart. This is tender and emotional, all at the same time. Congratulations Deborah, on Poem of the Day. My best to you. Hugs, Brandy

Excellent! God has brought attention to those hiding in the shadows. I pray for them. Even this man in a crossroads, seems not right, but let’s not judge those we don’t know. Might sound funny but sometimes I can feel someone hurting. Congratulations on POTD!

A very thought-provoking piece, Deborah. I can't think of anything much worse than being "hidden in the shadow of others". Congrats on POTD, as well.

OUCH!!! a very pointed rebuke for to so many of us they become "invisible" as we pass by. A beautiful write concerning a very dark aspect of human nature. Well done Deborah

Dear Deborah, I loved how your poem casts light on those often obscured by society's glare. It's the unseen: the poor, broken, and marginalized. Your words breathe life into their struggles, urging acknowledgment of their existence beyond mere observation. Your recognition as POTD is well-deserved; you've created a wonderful poem showing humanity's blind spots. Thank you for amplifying voices too long muted. - Blessings, Daniel Warm regards,
