Listen to poem:
Many of us have - or have had - an incredibly close relationship with a dog, and the grief brought about by losing them is often devastating - The Explanation You ask about the pictures hanging all about the house, In almost every room, of me and him. They’re there because I loved him so. I like to see his face When days are long and things are looking dim. A very close and always trusted friend for many years; From him I learned the ways of give and take. I helped him…and he helped me…and thus I learned the need To honor all commitments I would make. It was I who fed him. It was I who made his home. I groomed him, nursed his wounds, and taught him tricks. But, oh so many times…when I was desperate for a friend… When I was feeling low, or in a fix… On the couch, or floor beside me…tending to my needs… Prepared to offer any help he could… There he was. My closest friend. That’s why I loved him so. He had a way of turning bad to good. Now you know the reason for the photos on the walls. They testify to fifteen happy years. And I, for one, believe that every kid should have a dog… And hope that you’ll forgive me for my tears.
