The English Cuisine
The British have been sailing the world’s seas,
creating colonies and enriching themselves,
and it’s been going on for centuries.
Yet to their shame their cuisine has remained
stolidly English – and hardly changed –
fish n’ chips, steak and kidney pie – as seen
in foods the French call boring and obscene.
With so large a fleet of floating luxury ships
shouldn’t their menus have offered samples
of exotic fare, not kidney pie or fish and chips?
With passenger count lately in decline
(the major cause? Food less than refined.)
and revenue drying up, a worrisome sign.
To keep those luxury liners afloat and wealthy,
qualified French chefs were speedily hired –
to boost the onboard dining experience quickly!
But English tourists were quick to moan and groan
fish and chips a la française tasted less than English
and worse, prices were bloody higher than at home!
