The Enemy Within
I know you are there,
Waiting to appear
Whenever I am in despair,
If you can.
I know you are there,
Waiting to curdle my brain
And sour my thoughts,
If you can.
I know you are there,
Waiting to blur my vision,
And block my ears,
If you can.
I know you are there,
Waiting to turn me against my friends
And convince me the whole world is against me,
If you can.
I know you are there,
Waiting to see
If anybody can reach me
If anybody can reveal you to me
As the bitterness within
That is waiting to appear
Whenever I am in despair,
If you can.
