The Endless War

(not to take too seriously; I think I am immune to my "enemies" by now!) How near to us are foes we can’t resist when cells, like terrorists that we can’t see accumulate! What parasites exist within our very homes! We can’t be free of them, and even the perfectionist can’t rid his castle of the enemy. They have no need of camouflage. They breed, for on those cells sloughed off our skin they feed! Though microscopic, they are numberless. For those with allergies, the “mighty” mite can wreak some damage. Nasty, they possess the air we breathe, the beds we use at night! And they will never simply evanesce. . . To kill them off requires a constant fight, but no one, sadly, perfectly defeats them, even vacuuming and changing sheets! Inside the fridge, on counters, in the sink lurk others. Do not be too much at ease. The very sponge you’re using, which you think is helping, could be spreading a disease! Who knows what swarms in water that we drink, on spinach leaves or just a piece of cheese? How fleet is time; how bleak to have to spend it on a war we know will never end!

I so agree with this. We live in a world of germs and some of them a good for us and others are not. Someitmes in an effort to be clean and safe we kill the things that feed on the dangerous ones. It's a jungle out there. Now we know what drove Howard Hughes round the bend. Good write my friend. God Bless, JB

Wow! you've written truth with so much emotion. War only ends when another war begins. Nice write, Andrea.

LOL I think some of the best info my Mom ever gave me was not to worry about all that too much she's say "You'll eat a peck of dirt in your life!" yup we will! Light & Love [that's how you get a strong immune system!]

Germs and other parasites fill our homes, Andrea. Indeed, who know's what's growing in our refrigerators? It's like one of those old science experiments from high school. Enjoyed the light-hearted approach to this problem. Love, Carolyn

Very true Andrea. Danger is everywhere and we can never know. I just got home and it seems I had some sort of win in Brian's contest but I can't find the contest on the winner's pages. Do you know what happened? Love, Joyce

Actually, I'm wrong, the child was a girl...a little girl...as a writer, I can easily (as I'm sure you can, as well) mind warp myself. I can't even imagine the horror of losing a child, but to lose a child and yet have the ability to save others lives, yet not be able to save the one that you yourself would die for, I can't even begin to imagine that....sorry, didn't mean to get all serious on you...the war will never end, is bang on! cheers again, cyndi

;-) Hey you, the first verse had me thinking you were being tongue in cheek, and your theme was 'human parasites'. But then I realized that you were most likely commenting on the current crisis in Europe. 22 Dead already. I live fairly close to Walkerton (Ontario) where EColi killed several people, including a 2 year old boy- son of a doctor. I did not take your poem too seriously (it is Funny and loved it) despite a very serious subject that is currently troubling millions. Cheers, smiles, Cyndi

Excellent...very well done, indeed. And a cogent reminder that we share this planet with an abundance of organisms, many of which we either adapt to, learn to control through herculean efforts, or succumb to...Well written, pleasantly rhythmic and rhymed....good work.

good point regarding the germ filled world we live in. If taken too seriously i could see someone living in aplastic bubble. In the meantime i think i will practice universal precautions and leave the worrying to someone else
