("Turning of the Tide", 2019, original encaustic) The End of Freedom In the long winter nights As everyone sleeps Or long summer days As everyone plays The force of habits Long ingrained By sheepish tendencies Embraces and envelopes And strangles by degree What it means to be free Soon in the name of peace And security Democracy and freedom All freedom is lost And what is left Is only dark and dry A hard surface Which throws off The shimmering illusion Of water and light For those bound To endlessly cross The barren wasteland Of their soul (2/16/24)
