The Echo Returns Not

When love is given but not returned the heart begins to hurt a lot When love is kindled but you get burned For the echo returns not When dawn breaks with dulcet birdsong And the melody hits the spot Yet joy does not come along As the echo returns not When a poem speaks to us from the page With the inspiration it has brought Yet we remain muted, disengaged Then its echo returns not

I enjoyed reading this one, Josehp. I see it made POTW. I think it might have been written for a contest because I have seen a few with like theme, if so, it reads like a great contender to me. Way to go. Sara K

This poem speaks to my soul dear Joseph as it resonates strongly and your way with words here gives an evocative touch and i absolutely love that opening “ When love is given but not returned the heart begins to hurt a lot” ah! I know that hurt. And how you’ve written for this prompt is so very soulful! Best wishes! Congratulations on potw! Sending you light always

Metaphors, so many meanings interpret, unfathomable. Even a message in a bottle craves to be read. Intangibles return not, heartrending. Congratulations on your POTW, Joseph! Relatable and resonating ~

Oh, you got POTD - congrats. I love how each fourth line has a different first word, while keeping same alliteration. You constructed each line with a lot of thought and it paid off, leading to a poetically delivered perspective. I'm glad I clicked myself over here ... CayCay

Hello Joseph Your verses really do capture the silence of unrequited emotions with haunting beauty. I think your use of repetition echoes the very theme of the poem which creates such a powerful rhythm that lingers long after reading. POTW recognition is so well-deserved. The echo is heard and cherished. Spring Blessings, My Friend, Daniel

The main point within, ' when love is given but not returned, the heart begins to hurt a lot. ' I'm sure many can relate. It's better to wait for the right person to find you, or you find them, than to be with someone that doesn't echo the same feelings. Your thoughts are tender and emotional, all at the same time. Congratulations Joseph, on Poem of the Week. My best to you. Hugs, Brandy

There's such a sorrowful sense of missing out in each of your verses, Joseph. Unrequited love, getting no joy from serenading birds, and not able to enjoy poetry... echoes from each of those wonderful things should always ring out.
