The Eagle's Nest
Nestled back from the bank
of the neighboring lake,
along a winding, pine-lined road,
stood a tall, majestic farmer's barn
and his wife, he adored.
Otto, a German Farmer,
came to settle upon this land.
He turned this place
into a healing space,
with comfort, to those displaced,
with love and Amazing Grace.
From the compost, near the entrance,
the scent of potatoes and onion's soared,
then up the winding staircase, was a 5'2" door.
It's top was curved which welcomed,
my 5'2" height,
then behold a line of windows
that framed the trees and sky.
I sat, at the table, in Peace and Solitude,
amongst the warmth of Springtime breezes
that blew throughout the room.
And though the horse-hair mattress,
was certainly not in fashion,
nor the carpet upon the floor,
but "The Eagle's Nest," was simply the best,
and a "memory" forevermore.
