The Dull Day
I'd like to go out
But the rain pours down
The galleries
Are closed on Mondays
I checked the library
See what they have on
AA or learning English
Neither needed
My fridge and wardrobes
Are already full
Exercise is
A bridge too far
The cinema
Not up my street
I remember
An abstract art exhibition
I went to
When I was about 8
There were benches
In front of each painting
And I sat
With my council estate vibes
Picturing wonder
Aware how the painting
Impacted me
There was the smell
Of rich people's coffee
Coming from the cafe
I think I had a samosa
For the first time
And the World
Felt experienced
And tangible
I want to go there
Right now
I tried the other week
The gallery has moved
The current installation
A greenhouse with wiggly lines
Drawn on
It had no aroma
No experience
So I went to the Science and Industry
To see the car
My ancestor
Was the mechanic for
Belsize Motor
They'd put it in storage
The John Rylands library
Was beautiful as ever
But had people in
I want to unlock my thoughts
From my head
To free my soul
I'm currently stuck
With myself
And I've run out of conversation
