The Drums of War
One day the drums will stay silent for a lifetime,
Sadly, today is not that day,
As once again the drums are beating in our lifetime.
From another far flung land the drums are calling,
And there is no time for stalling,
As too many are now wailing,
For aid not to be flowing.
But let us not muck up this peace when it comes,
Having this time done our sums,
Around the cost of guns,
So, every Christmas in the future comes,
With only the sound of happy drums,
And even happier mums and dads,
With sons and daughters home for the holidays,
To fight over who gets the last of the turkey's or hams.
