The Dream of a Lonely Orphan

She sat alone behind a closed window, secured by iron grids, on the top floor of an ugly old black building that some dared call an orphanage. Once she had hope, Once she had dreams that some kindly couple might perceive, wish her for themselves, take her to a cosy house, where food was savoury to taste. She dreamt she would achieve normality, attend a proper school, read books and play with happy children, receive toys occasionally, and live in harmony. The dream remained a dream. days turned forlorn. All hope was lost. She was too old now. Couples wanted small children, Unsuitable ones came for her but were refused. Little did she know that soon she would develop another dream, that someone would finally notice her, and carry her off on a romantic spree. From the closed barred window She looked at the moon. Will she find happiness?

Such reality is harsh, and some would rather not know. Thank you for making these realities known, Victor, many needy, we must not ignore. It is so moving and masterly written in your special way. Hugs ~Anaya

I do hope any orphan finds the happiness they long for eventually. The same can be said for those living in an unhappy home. A very moving poem Victor, some day her prince will come bringing happiness from that moment on… Belle

This is so touching, dear Victor ! She represents everyone orphaned in one way or another. She hopes thar someone would come to rescue her. May her dreams come true. As long as there is hope, her life wouldn't be in utter darkness

Wow, this is sad. The saddest thing about it, is that it is probably true and happened more times than we think. Very touching write.

Oh, this is so sad. There are many children waiting, it is heartbreaking. I pray those not adopted find their forever families one day, and especially solace in our heavenly Father who is a Father to the fatherless. By the way, thank you for writing this poem. Maybe it is just what someone somewhere needs to hear because maybe there is a child somewhere waiting for them. God bless you Victor, this is beautiful.
