The Dog of My Life

Shakespearean Sonnet

I remember the day I picked you,
With your sweet little puppy dog eyes.
For my heart was searching for love too,
When I looked down and heard your soft cries.

Your brothers and sisters were running,
They were after a fallen clothes peg,
But there was a puppy so stunning
Trying hard to get up on my leg.

Four years it has been since that moment
And I thank God daily for his gift
Each day you give me such enjoyment
Your love has given my heart a lift.

Today I know as clear as can be,
I didn’t pick you; rather you picked me.

It's amazing how pets bring joy into our lives. They're furry angels in disguise!

I understand how you feel about your dog. For sixteen years i had a loyal and loving Jack Russel; his name was Scamp. He was born in an orange box filled with straw in a cattle shed full of cows. He was the runt. The farmer told me not to bother with him..."he wont make it" he said. Scamp looked up at me and i "read his face". I knew he just wanted that one chance; the deal was done! He got his chance at life...and took it!! He had more life in him than any other being i have ever encountered!!

It is so true........a pet often isn't picked out by us........much more often, they pick who they want to go home with. What a sweet poem ! Congratulations, Brenda!

Dear Brenda: What a lovely poem. Only a dog owner/ lover can fully appreciate and understand. Your poem reminds of the many poodle-terriers we once owned. Leon
