The Death of Love

All she wanted was love, but he forgot the dreamy days of yore. Gone were those sweet caresses, Gone were the walks hand in hand, Gone was any passionate lovemaking. All sentiment evaporated into bank accounts, and soon he found others interested in spending his hard-earned money. She stayed at home, sad, lonely and crying. She dared not find solace anywhere. Until one day he returned...drunk. He took his pleasure in using force and killed her fragile body and soul. She walked towards the beckoning sea, and walked and walked blindly, though she could not swim. Behind her, she left a short note: No one cries beneath the brine, which cannot wash away your filthy attempt. The seed of love was now definitely despairingly dead. NB This is part truth, part fiction. And has got nothing to do with my life. I was a mere spectator of life. I was in a way sad that the man ruined such a love because of money. Such a brutal man never learns it seems.

Dear Victor, you evoke heart-wrenching pain with your vivid, emotional imagery. I was really struck by "No one cries beneath the brine" - a powerful verse that brings her simmering suffering to a rolling boil. Your poetic pen is both poignant and profound in capturing the death of love. Warmest wishes my friend.. ~Susan

The angst in this is beautifully depicted! What is love without pain to compare? Perhaps the valleys in life are as essential as the mountain peaks. Another engaging masterpiece and a reality for many.

Hi Victor! A dramatic write for sure! I have found women and men to be more than reslilienti also am a believer in God plus human resilience . Many of us have been harmed. But we learn from pain. Poor and wealthy men can be brutes. But they cannot destroy a true woman. Pangie xx

Sad and powerful, Victor. I always find it such a shame when a man so in love ends up eventually killing his woman's soul, and sometimes her body as well.

It's a sad truth that man never seems to learn from his mistakes. Once upon a time, there was a beautiful love story that was ruined by greed. While one person remained true to love, the other was consumed by their desire for more.As a result, the way things were could never be the same again. Let this be a lesson to us all: choose love over greed and never let the allure of wealth cloud judgment. A very well written poem dear Victor . You have captured the emotions so well...Hugs xx

Love teeters on scales, I'm guessing ties with Europe/Spain--Malta maybe is Euros, dollars, yen, or... Same scales but love has two different weights, Love: wants or needs, and between the two, one adds blindness that tips the scales heavily to a sad end. The one who needs, are focus on love, --but, the one who wants, focus on things--and love, thank you my friend, Victor. Aloha, William

Victor, this brilliantly composed poem tells a haunting tale of mixed up priorities. It's so tragic when love dies, and it's so sad for people who love each other, to allow money to come between them. Blessings.

A very well written, profound read dear Victor. So, so sad and you have captured so much here, ‘ The Death Of Love’. The lines, ‘ She walked towards the beckoning sea and walked and walked blindly though she could not swim’ has great impact in showing her desperation and the need to finally free herself from it all. ‘ Money is the root of all evil’. A very reflective read dear Victor. Have a good weekend my friend. Hugs and blessings x

My dear Victor, your poem is so profound. Money is evil. It destroys families and everything that is in font. How lovely you remind us about these problems. Even when money is not enough, we should have dignity. God my friend, you really touched my heart. I hope you have a nice weekend. Love/María

Whoa!! This is a sad one. It makes you wonder what makes a person tick who would take out life's frustrations upon the one he is supposed to love (but women do the same deed to their husbands sometimes). Thanks for sharing this story with us and for your visit to my page. Sara K

Time changes us all--sometimes the change is unbearable--as you splendidly convey in this poem. Sad ending, though apt for the story.

So sad.... ! Definitely there are so many women passing through such bitter experiences all around us. When love dies in marriage, life loses all its charm. When force is used against the partner, life becomes unbearable and many decide to opt out of life. Your partly factual and partly fictitious tale is so touching, dear Victor!
