The Death of a Melody

It’s been two years, three months, and twenty days since tender music left my life for good and turned my days to somber shades of grey which left a shadow where a man once stood. The faded notes of yesterday’s duets still echo in the canyons of my soul, and leaves a longing, tempered with regrets, that never sings the songs that made us whole. She left behind unfinished rhapsodies, and crossed the bridge into eternal life; but here behind, without the melodies, I’m missing tender music of my wife. As death’s cruel hand has stolen all my dreams, my songs have turned to tears, and tears to streams. March 1, 2023

Dear John, I am really sorry for your loss. Your poem is tender, and full of love for your sweetest wife - I am sure, your duets were amazing, but you will continue to create exquisite poems inspired by her memory. Love ~ Mala

A beautiful sonnet, John! When I lost someone I loved, years ago, I found that writing poems about him actually did help in the healing process. Those poems are still among my best! I hope your talent as a poet will be a soothing balm for you as well.

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and comments, Katharine. The best poems are always written from personal emotions and experiences. In this case, it was a challenge to try and convey those emotions of something I haven’t experienced. John

"Death’s cruel hand has stolen all my dreams." This thought touches my heart so deeply. When you're separated from the one you love, it leaves you feeling empty and alone. This is tender and emotional, all at the same time. Many wonderful blessings to you, my dear sweet friend. Hugs, Brandy
