The Day Is Near
outside the chapel
sitting on the bench
he soaks in the sun
on this glorious
september morn
knowing his days
are numbered
yet he rejoices
in his heart
he’s prepared
for the day
when he’ll meet
his Maker
he’s known
the end is coming
he smiles
a most splendid smile
knowing the day is near
