The Dance
I would have danced for you
but you never asked
I guess you knew
this fool's two-step
my rock and roll masquerade
hid my coordinated awkwardness.
I listened to your music
laughed and loved at your vocal renditions
Pavarotti, Bocelli, and names long forgotten
in the meandering of time
where you sang
with an angel's voice.
Still, I would try to sing for you
though you and I well knew
I could not carry any tune
not a note or melody of truth
in my foolish endeavors
we laughed until we cried, together.
I tried
all it did was make you chuckle
and in that happiness
I laughed and danced in my wild gyrations
glad we shared those times
just once more, let me dance for you.
