The Constant Slaves
We are the constant slaves
Marching as one
Saluting as one
Obedient as one
In this long journey
That nothing can stop
The terrible struggle
To save ourselves
Before we are lost forever
In the crucible
We are the constant slaves
Hidden from view
In the fog of slavery
Why would the gods
Bestow upon us constitutions
That they then want us to resist?
Is it some pleasurable plot they hatched
To alleviate the idleness
Of being African?
We are still in love with
This same Africa
But Africa is gone
It is a love that eats
At our minds
And poisons our souls
To whom among the scavengers
Are slaves' tears more desirable?
Which of the slave-masters
Merits more praise than the other?
We see them as they are
We have lost control of our
Memory
Consciousness
Personality
We gave them more
Than they had wanted
Even animals don't live
In their own feaces
No one cares
No one to care
No kinsmen around us
Always the constant slaves
