The Captain is always ,or should be, the last...on the ship.

The oceans waves...hit hard at night Panicking mates...as they gulped in fright On heated rails...they've held on tight Fearing, they not see...tomorrow's light The iceberg's edge...they thought they missed It came upon them...through the mist On hands and knees...the deck they kissed When the mast to sail...had bent and twist Just one lifeboat...to save the crew How many to hold...the captain knew Twenty one men...at tops will do But including himself...there were twenty two The ship was capsized...it was sinking fast Spinning in circles...without it's mast To save himself...the captain passed His time at sea...this was, the last The Last Poetry Contest Sponsored by Silent One 11/27/2018

What a wonderful poem. You’ve captured the essence of fear and courage, acceptance and sacrifice. Well done, Charlie. Best wishes. Deb

Thank you so much, Dear Heart! I got the idea from a movie I recently watched. In the movie, the captain survived as well...much appreciate you kind words :)

Wow! What a great story you tell so eloquently in perfect rhyme. Had a boat and took many people fishing. Spent stormy nights at sea. Could relate to all of this, but the loss at the end. Great entry for the contest! Hugs, Carolyn

You're busy with your contest, Charlie, but lots of Soupers appreciate your kind and generous comments, me included. There's a great pier on the ocean near me and I've caught Sheep's Head, Flounder and Pompano there. Wish you lived nearby so we could go fishing together!

Hello dear Carolyn, Wow! If I'd have known that...I would have gotten to know you a lot sooner (lol) I love fishing. I really appreciate all your wonderful comments, thank you so much for reading my poetry. So glad you couldn't relate to the ending. I have a lot more of your poetry to read up on :) Sending love and hugs :) Charlie
